We offer a 10% discount for each additional class a student takes in one semester.

We offer a 10% discount for each additional sibling who participates in classes.

Foundations of Theatre

FOUNDATIONS OF THEATRE
Grades 4th–12th

This 2-hour seminar is designed for those new to ACT or those who have not completed a previous semester class or camp for 4th Grade or older. Taking this seminar will qualify as the prerequisite to all acting and musical theatre-related classes for 4th grade on up.

Who needs to take this seminar?

  • Students NEW to ACT this semester.
  • Students who are moving up from the 1st-3rd grade into the 4th-6th grade.

NOTE: This is NOT a stand-alone class. It is only for those registering for a class THIS semester!

This is a fun and creative class filled with a combination of improv, games, and acting for the stage. Students will learn a variety of acting skills and techniques throughout the semester and will prepare and perform the original, one-act play ON STAGE in the Semester Showcase.

Script Description: Aliens Among Us is an original one-act comedy that takes place in a school classroom.  Everything seems to be normal until some extraterrestrial “students” join the class.  Even though they have space clothing and antennas coming out of their heads, no one seems to notice that they are aliens. No one, that is, until two perceptive students realize that they are from outer space.  Unfortunately, no one believes them and the fun begins. 

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course:

  • Foundations of Theatre Seminar (This 2-hour seminar is offered the week before class begins. You can sign up for this when you register.)
  • Previous acting camp or class for 4th grade or older.

DANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATRE: Grades 6-12

Do you love musical theatre but need more training in dance skills? If so, this class is for you. Since multiple dance styles are often woven together to create interesting numbers for musical theatre, you will be developing techniques in tap and jazz, along with some modern dance. We will also be increasing your flexibility, strength, and performance techniques to learn how to portray an interesting character through dance that goes beyond just technical dancing.  Students will prepare and perform selections from the musical Wicked.

ACTING OUTSIDE THE LINES (Improv): Grades 9-12
Thursdays 4:00-6:00 PM

This is a fun and creative class filled with a combination of improv, games, and acting for the stage. Improv is not only fun but is extremely beneficial for developing more complex characters in scripts, as well as learning to create on the fly.  Improv skills help the actor with listening, quick thinking, concentration skills and so much more.  The class will perform a compilation of improvs  ON STAGE in the Semester Showcase.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course:

  • Foundations of Theatre (This 2-hour seminar is offered the week before class begins. You can sign up for it when you register.)
  • A previous ACT class or camp.

Students will learn a variety of Musical Theatre skills and techniques throughout the semester. The class will prepare musical selections from Beauty and the Beast to perform for the Semester Showcase.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course:

Stage Combat: Grades 6th-12th

This is a fun and creative class that teaches specific skills for stage combat – a specialized art form for the language of fighting on stage. It is a device developed by performers to keep themselves, and others safe while performing stunning fight choreography to wow an audience. Students will learn various combat techniques and incorporate them into acting scenes which will be performed ON STAGE for family and friends to enjoy!

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course:

  • Foundations of Theatre Seminar (This 2-hour seminar is offered the week before class begins. You can sign up for this when you register.)
  • Previous acting camp or class for 4th grade or older.

Shakespeare: Grades 6-12

Swashbuckling heroes, dastardly villains, zany clowns and beautiful princesses – these are just a few of the characters you’ll meet reading Shakespeare’s plays!  Students will explore scenes from the great bard’s plays and see how fun they can be.  This is Shakespeare as it was meant to be – fast-paced, active, and never boring!  Throughout the semester students will prepare a scene from one of Shakespeare’s plays to be performed ON STAGE at the Semester Showcase.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course:
