Dance for Musical Theatre
NEW OFFERING - Dance for Musical Theatre: Hamilton
Do you love theatre but need more training in dance skills? If so, this class is for you. Since multiple dance styles are often woven together to create interesting numbers for musical theatre, you will be developing techniques in tap, jazz, and some modern. We will also be increasing your flexibility, strength, and performance techniques to learn how to portray an interesting character through dance that goes beyond just technical dancing. Students will prepare and perform wholesome selections from the musical Hamilton.
Prerequisite Seminar: Students who are new to ACT will need to take the Foundations of Theatre Seminar.
This 2-hour seminar can be taken on Saturday, February 8th, and STILL start the class on the 18th. If you’re not able to attend on the 8th, please contact us for an alternate arrangement. You can sign up for this seminar when you register for a semester class.

Semester Showcase: Saturday, May 17, 11:00 am
Semester Showcase Location: Sand Creek High School Auditorium
Showcase Production Fee: A production fee of $60 will be charged on April 1st. Production fees will be discounted for families with multiple students or multiple classes ($45 for a second class or student and $25 for the third, with a maximum of $130 per family).
Showcase Tickets: Tickets are not needed to attend the Semester Showcase so families can invite guests to attend the performance without cost!
Costumes: Students will be required to provide their own costumes for the show. Most costumes can be created from items around your home or from Goodwill.

A 5% discount will be given if semester tuition is paid in full at the time of registration.

Students who have a military parent qualify for a 10% discount.
Multi-Class Discount*
We offer a 10% discount for each additional class a student takes in one semester.
Sibling Discount*
We offer a 10% discount for each additional sibling who participates in classes.
*Students may use only one discount per class and all discounts will be applied to the equal or lesser value class.

Class Instructor
Shayla Mellen has a Bachelors of Arts in Visual and Performing Arts with a Dance Major and Theater minor which she received at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. As well as an Associate of Arts in Dance Performance on a full-tuition scholarship from Casper College. She has been dancing since the age of 2 and dance and theater are her absolute passion. She has been in many musicals, plays, and dance shows such as Double-Sided Coin, Collective Trust, Mary Poppins, The Wedding Singer, Six Characters in Search of an Author, A Rock N Roll Fantasy, and an adaptation of Charlotte’s Web through dance. She is the Show Choir and Musical Choreographer at Vista Ridge High School and Show Choir Choreographer for Falcon High School. Shayla has also choreographed some of her own original dance shows such as Resurgence and Psyche through UCCS. She has loved being a part of the ACT staff for several years now.
