Musical Theatre Camp: Grades 1-5

Musical Selections from THE GREATEST SHOWMAN

Ever wonder how people can act, dance, and sing all at the same time? Interested in seeing if musical theater is for you? This camp will focus on using acting skills while singing and dancing within musical theatre. Along with learning new skills and playing fun theater improvisations, the students will prepare a medley of choreographed songs and acting scenes from THE GREATEST SHOWMAN to perform ON STAGE for family and friends to enjoy! 

UPDATE – This camp will be jointly taught by Miss Shayla AND Mr. Bob in a special collaboration!

Camp Dates: March 24-28, 2025 

Times: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM 

Camp Size Limit: 16 Students (Only 3 Openings Left)

Shoe Requirement: Black Jazz Shoes

Food: Students should bring 2 snacks, a sack lunch, and a water bottle each day. 

Spring Break Camp Schedule: March 24-28, 2025

  • Camp Showcase Performance: Friday at 1:15 PM 
 

Showcase Performance:

Camp Showcase: Friday, March 28, 1:15pm

Showcase Location: Will be held at Colorado Spring Christian School Auditorium.

Showcase Tickets: Tickets are not needed to attend the Camp Showcase so families can invite guests to attend the performance without cost!

Costumes: Students will provide their own costumes for the show. Most costumes can be created from items around your home or from Goodwill.

Spring Break Refund Policy:

If a student is withdrawn from Spring BreakCamp BEFORE March 1, the tuition will be refunded less a $100 non-refundable deposit.

If a student is withdrawn from Spring Break Camp after March 1st, no refund is given. However, if ACT is able to fill your spot with another student, then ACT will refund the tuition less the $100 deposit.

Military Discount*

Students who have a military parent qualify for a 10% discount.

Sibling Discount*

We offer a 10% discount for each additional sibling who participates in classes.

*Students may use only one discount per camp and all discounts will be applied to the equal or lesser value class.

Bob is thrilled to be on the team with the Academy of Children’s Theatre! Bob is currently a lecturer with The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Robert is a trained actor and a member of Actor’s Equity Association, The Screen Actor’s Guild, and The Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. He specializes in comedic theatre training derived from his work at The Second City, Carnivores In Action, and Burnt Toast. He has worked as an actor and director at The Signature Theatre (NYC), The Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Theatreworks (Colorado Springs), Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival, Tennessee Repertory Theater, and many more. Some of Bob’s favorite roles are, Falstaff-Merry Wives of Windsor, Scrooge-A Christmas Carol, The Complete Works of Shakespeare, John Adams-1776, Hook-Peter Pan, and Herod-Jesus Christ Superstar.

Class Instructor

Shayla Mellen has a Bachelors of Arts in Visual and Performing Arts with a Dance Major and Theater minor which she received at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, as well as an Associate of Arts in Dance Performance on a full-tuition scholarship from Casper College. She has been dancing since the age of 2 and dance and theater are her absolute passion. She has been in many musicals, plays, and dance shows such as Double-Sided Coin, Collective Trust, Mary Poppins, The Wedding Singer, Six Characters in Search of an Author, A Rock N Roll Fantasy, and an adaptation of Charlotte’s Web through dance. She is the Show Choir and Musical Choreographer at Vista Ridge High School and Show Choir Choreographer for Falcon High School. Shayla has also choreographed some of her own original dance shows such as Resurgence and Psyche through UCCS. She has loved being a part of the ACT staff for several years now.
