Foundation Seminar

Foundations of Theatre

FOUNDATIONS OF THEATRE
Grades 4th–12th

This 2-hour seminar is designed for those new to ACT or those who have not completed a previous semester class or camp for 4th Grade or older. Taking this seminar will qualify as the prerequisite to all acting and musical theatre-related classes for 4th grade on up.

Who needs to take this seminar?

  • Students NEW to ACT this semester.
  • Students who are moving up from the 1st-3rd grade into the 4th-6th grade.

This is a fun and creative class filled with a combination of great vocal technique, dance coordination, and acting for the stage. Students will learn a variety of Musical Theatre skills and techniques throughout the semester. The class will prepare musical selections from The Greatest Showman to perform in the Semester Showcase.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course:

  • Foundations of Theatre Seminar  (This 2-hour seminar is offered the week before class begins. You can sign up for it when you register.)
  • Previous ACT class or camp for Grades 4-6.
  • NOTE: Students moving up from Grades 1-3 into this class MUST take the Foundations Seminar.

Musical Selections from Elf the Musical

Dancing for Musical Theatre is more than just dance techniques. It also includes connecting with the audience to tell a story through dance and facial expressions.  Students will develop their jazz technique layered with Broadway-style tap moves! Students will prepare and perform selections from Elf the Musical for the Semester Showcase. Put on your dancing shoes and join us for a fun and energetic class!

This class will offer more specific dance techniques in both tap and jazz, along with developing each student’s acting skills. (In order to teach both tap and jazz techniques, singing will NOT be included in this class.) Students will perform selections from the musical Descendants 3 in the Semester Showcase.

Hip hop is a vibrant form of dance that combines a variety of freestyle movements to create an energetic and fun performance.  Over the years hip hop has evolved into one of the most popular styles of dance. Students will enjoy this fast-paced and creative dance class, as they prepare ACT-appropriate selections from Hamilton to perform for the Semester Showcase.

Costumes: Students will be required to provide their own costumes for the show. Most costumes can be created from items around your home or from Goodwill.
