FOUNDATIONS OF ACTING
Grades 4th–12th

This 2-hour seminar is designed for those new to ACT or have not completed a previous semester Acting class or Acting camp for 4th Grade or older.

Taking this seminar will qualify as the prerequisite to all ACTING classes for 4th grade on up. (Previous MUSICAL THEATRE or DANCE classes or camps do NOT count towards this prerequisite.)

Who needs to take this seminar?

  • Students NEW to ACT who will be registered for a semester ACTING class THIS semester.
  • Students who have taken Musical Theatre classes or camps, but are now registering to take an Acting class.

NOTE: This is NOT a stand alone class. It is only offered to those who are registering for an Acting class THIS semester!

FOUNDATIONS OF MUSICAL THEATRE
Grades 4th–12th

This 2-hour seminar is designed for those new to ACT or have not completed a previous semester Musical Theatre class or Musical Theatre camp for 4th Grade or older.

Taking this seminar will qualify as the prerequisite to all MUSICAL THEATRE classes for 4th grade on up. (Previous ACTING or DANCE classes or camps do NOT count towards this prerequisite.)

  • Students who are moving up from the 1st-3rd Grade age group into the 4th-6th grade group.
  • Students who have taken Acting classes or camps, but are now registering to take a Musical Theatre class.

MUSICAL THEATRE 210: Grades 8th–12th
Mondays 4:00-6:00 PM
Selections from Into the Woods

This is a fun and creative class filled with a combination of great vocal technique, dance coordination, and acting for the stage. Students will learn a variety of Musical Theatre skills and techniques throughout the semester. The class will prepare select songs, choreography, and acting scenes from Into the Woods. At the end of the semester, students will perform in the Semester Showcase.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course:

  • Foundations of Musical Theatre (This is a 2 hour seminar that can be taken the week before class begins. You can sign up for the Foundations seminar when you register for this class.)
  • Previous Musical Theatre Class for Grades 6-8 or 8-12.
  • MUSICAL THEATRE Camp for Grades 6-8 or 8-12 (An ACTING camp does not fulfill this prerequisite.)

NOTE: The curriculum for Musical Theatre 200, 210, 220 and 230 are unique, and designed to be taken in any order.

ACTING 200: Grades 8th – 12th

Script: Mayhem at the Museum

This is a fun and creative class filled with a combination of improv, games, and acting for the stage. Students will learn a variety of acting skills and techniques throughout the semester. The class will prepare a show and perform in the Semester Showcase.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course:

  • Foundations of Acting (This is a 2-hour seminar that can be taken the week before class begins. You can sign up for the Foundations seminar when you register for this class.)
  • ACTING Camp or ACTING Class  (A Musical Theatre camp does not fulfill this prerequisite.)

NOTE: The curriculum for Acting 200, 210, 220 and 230 are unique, and designed to be taken in any order.

BROADWAY COMBO (Acting. Tap & Jazz): GRADES 7-12

Selections from Anastasia

This class will offer more specific dance technique in both tap and jazz, along with developing each student’s acting skills. There will be one acting teacher (Katie Wyckoff) and one dance teacher (Beth Jordahl). Katie and Beth will alternate weeks teaching this class. (In order to teach both tap and jazz techniques, singing will NOT be included in this class.) Students will perform selections from the musical Anastasia in the Semester Showcase.

Dance Uniform & Shoe Requirements: Any Color Shirt, Black Athletic Shorts or Pants, Black Jazz Shoes, Black Tap Shoes

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course.

  • A previous Acting class or Acting camp for Grades 4 or higher. (A previous Musical Theatre class or camp does not fulfill this prerequisite.)

Stage Combat: Grades 7th-12th

Have you ever wondered how to perform a realistic and safe fight scene? In this action packed class, students will learn combat safety, sword techniques, as well as sharpen their acting skills to make a fight scene come to life. Students will get to choose a character, and learn how to choreograph their own fight scenes, which they will perform for friends and family on stage in the Semester Showcase.

Acting Outside the Lines (Improv): Grades 7th–12th
Saturdays 9:00-10:30 AM

This is a fun and creative class filled with a combination of improv, games, and acting for the stage.  Improv is not only fun, but is extremely beneficial for developing more complex characters in scripts, as well as learning to create on-the-fly.  Improv skills help the actor with listening, quick thinking, concentration skills and so much more.  The class will perform a compilation of improvs at the end of the semester in the ACT Studio for family and friends.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course:

  • Foundations of Acting (This is a 2-hour seminar that can be taken the week before class begins. You can sign up for the Foundations seminar when you register for this class.)
  • ACTING Camp for 4th Grade or older. (A Musical Theatre camp does not fulfill this prerequisite.)
  • A previous Acting class for Grades 4-6, Grades 6-8 or Grades 8-12.
