FOUNDATIONS OF ACTING
Grades 4th–12th

This 2-hour seminar is designed for those new to ACT or have not completed a previous semester Acting class or Acting camp for 4th Grade or older.

Taking this seminar will qualify as the prerequisite to all Acting or Broadway Combo classes. (Previous MUSICAL THEATRE or DANCE classes or camps do NOT count towards this prerequisite.)

Who needs to take this seminar?

  • Students NEW to ACT who will be registered for an Acting or Broadway Combo class THIS semester.
  • Students who have taken Musical Theatre classes or camps, but are now registering to take an Acting class.

NOTE: This is NOT a stand alone class. It is only offered to those who are registering for an Acting class THIS semester!

FOUNDATIONS OF MUSICAL THEATRE

MUSICAL THEATRE 220: Grades 8-12
Mondays 4:00-6:00 PM
Musical Selections from Annie Get Your Gun

This is a fun and creative class filled with a combination of great vocal technique, dance coordination, and acting for the stage. Students will learn a variety of musical theatre skills and techniques throughout the semester. The class will prepare acting scenes and choreography of musical selections from Annie Get Your Gun. At the end of the semester, students will perform on stage in the Semester Showcase.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course.

  • A previous Musical Theatre class or camp for Grades 6-8 or Grades 8-12. (A previous Acting class or camp does not fulfill this prerequisite.)
  • Foundations of Musical Theatre Seminar.  (This is a 2-hour seminar that can be taken the week before class begins. You can sign up for the Foundations seminar when you register for this class.)

NOTE: The curriculum for Musical Theatre 200, 210, 220 and 230 are unique, and designed to be taken in any order.

BROADWAY COMBO (Acting, Tap & Jazz): GRADES 7-12

Musical Selections from La La Land

This class will offer more specific dance technique in both tap and jazz, along with developing each student’s acting skills. There will be one acting teacher (Katie Wyckoff) and one dance teacher (Beth Jordahl). Katie and Beth will alternate weeks teaching this class. (In order to teach both tap and jazz techniques, singing will NOT be included in this class.) Students will perform selections from the musical La La Land in the Semester Showcase.

Dance Uniform & Shoe Requirements: Any Color Shirt, Black Athletic Shorts or Pants, Black Jazz Shoes, Black Tap Shoes

INTERMEDIATE TAP: GRADES 7-12

Musical Selections from That’s Entertainment (Various Songs from Broadway)

Intermediate Tap Dance is for those dancers who already have a basic understanding of tap dance, and have taken at least one Broadway Combo class. Our goal is to improve on skills such as timing, speed, sound quality, and movement quality. Tap dancing is an important skill that has a rich history and is currently growing in popularity. Some of the ACT II productions, such as Alice in Wonderland Jr.and Suessical Jr., utilized tap dancers, so this class is a great way to improve those skills. At the end of the semester, students will perform to classic tap numbers from a variety of shows such as Singin’ In the Rain, Royal Wedding and other shows in the Semester Showcase.
