FOUNDATIONS OF ACTING SEMINAR
Grades 4th – 12th

Taking this seminar will qualify as the prerequisite to all ACTING or BROADWAY COMBO classes.

Who needs to take this seminar?

  • Students NEW to ACT who will be registered for a semester ACTING class THIS semester.
  • Students who have NOT previously taken a class or camp for Grades 6-8, or Grades 8-12.
  • Students who have taken a Musical Theatre or Broadway class or camp, but are now registering to take an Acting or Broadway Combo class.

NOTE: This is NOT a stand alone class. It is only offered to those who are registering for an Acting class THIS semester!

Students will learn a variety of acting skills and techniques including:

· Physical & Vocal Warm-Ups
· The 5 Ws
· Stage Directions
· Body Positions
· Physical Actions
· Character Background
· Intentions
· Obstacles
· Tactics

Tuition: $20

FOUNDATIONS OF MUSICAL THEATRE SEMINAR

Grades 4th – 12th

Taking this seminar will qualify as the prerequisite to all Musical Theatre classes for 4th grade on up. (Previous ACTING or DANCE classes or camps do NOT count towards this prerequisite.)

Who needs to take this seminar?

  • Students NEW to ACT who will be registered for a semester MUSICAL THEATRE class THIS semester.
  • Students who have preciously taken a class or camp in Grades 1-3 (or Ages 6-9), but are moving up to Grades 4-6.
  • Students who have NOT previously taken a class or camp for Grades 4-6, Grades 6-8, or Grades 8-12.
  • Students who have taken an Acting or Broadway Dance class or camp, but are now registering to take a Musical Theatre class.

NOTE: This is NOT a stand alone class. It is only offered to those who are registering for a Musical Theatre class THIS semester!

· Stage Directions
· Body Positions
· Projection
· Breathing
· Basic Dance Steps
· Types of Notes & Clefs
· The 5 W’s
· Character Background

ACTING 230: Grades 8-12
Mondays 5:45-7:45 PM

This is a fun and creative class filled with a combination of improv, games, and acting for the stage. Students will learn a variety of acting skills and techniques throughout the semester. The class will prepare a show and perform on stage in the Semester Showcase.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course.

  • A previous Acting class or camp for Grades 6-8 or Grades 8-12. (A previous Musical Theatre class or camp does not fulfill this prerequisite.)
  • Foundations of Acting Seminar.  (This is a 2-hour seminar that can be taken the week before class begins. You can sign up for the Foundations seminar when you register for this class.)

NOTE: The curriculum for Acting 200, 210, 220 and 230 are unique, and designed to be taken in any order

BROADWAY COMBO (Acting & Dance): GRADES 7-12

Selections from Matilda 

This BRAND NEW class will offer more specific dance technique in both tap and jazz, along with developing each student’s acting skills.  There will be one acting teacher (Katie Wyckoff) and one dance teacher (Beth Jordahl).  Katie and Beth will alternate weeks teaching this class. (In order to teach both tap and jazz techniques, singing will NOT be included in this class.) Students will perform acting and dance selections from the musical Matilda on stage in the Semester Showcase.

Girls and Boys Uniform: Any Color Shirt, Black Athletic Shorts or Pants, Black Jazz Shoes, Black Tap Shoes

MUSICAL THEATRE 200: Grades 8-12

This is a fun and creative class filled with a combination of great vocal technique, dance coordination, and acting for the stage. Students will learn a variety of Musical Theatre skills and techniques throughout the semester. The class will prepare select songs, choreography, and acting scenes from You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. At the end of the semester, students will perform on stage in the Semester Showcase.

Prerequisite: Students must have ONE of the following to take this course.

  • A previous Musical Theatre class or camp for Grades 6-8 or Grades 8-12. (A previous Acting class or camp does not fulfill this prerequisite.)
  • Foundations of Musical Theatre Seminar.  (This is a 2-hour seminar that can be taken the week before class begins. You can sign up for the Foundations seminar when you register for this class.)

Advanced Musical Theatre (By Audition ONLY): GRADES 7-12

Selections from Shrek

This BRAND NEW class will challenge and develop the more advanced musical theatre student.  The class will be taught by three teachers.  Katie Wyckoff will teach acting on Tuesdays.  Beth Jordahl will teach dance (tap and jazz) on Thursdays.  Kristin Weber will teach voice on specific Tuesdays or Thursdays throughout the semester.   Students will perform in at least one of the Semester Showcases, and may perform a portion of their production in multiple Showcases.

Students will need to audition for this class.   Auditions will be allowed through January 18th.  To secure an audition time, email Director@ACTcolorado.net. Students should prepare a 1-minute comedic monologue, 30-60 seconds of a Broadway song, and a 1-minute tap or jazz dance sequence choreographed to music of your choice.
