ADVANCED VOCALS: Grades 6-12
Thursdays 4:00-6:00 PM

Do you want to further your musical training and learn how to command the stage in song? If so, this class is for you. Singing is one of the key elements of musical theatre, and it’s important to have a comprehensive understanding of how music works. In this class, we will spend time learning the ins and outs of the musical score and bringing the music of Broadway from the page to the stage.

Students will receive intense vocal training, and by the end of the semester, they will increase their ability to command the stage with singing. The students will learn a bit of vocal pedagogy (vocal health), have homework which will help them research the roles they are playing, learn to read music and sight-read, and participate in several musical numbers which include solo work and harmonization. For the final performance, each student will engage in several group numbers, trios, and duets from a Classic Broadway Repertoire. This will provide the students with a chance to work with partners and engage in more challenging music.

Though this is not a performance-based class, we believe that it is important for the students to share what they have created. Throughout the semester, as songs are ready, we will film and post them online for families and friends to enjoy. We will also seek out additional opportunities for students to perform in the community. These opportunities will be contingent on the level of parental availability and involvement.
