Musical Selections from The Descendants
This fun-filled camp will include stage acting, along with tap and jazz dance. Tap and jazz skills will allow the students to experience these styles of dance while improving their flexibility, sense of rhythm, and overall coordination. In order to focus on acting, tap, and jazz, students will not be singing in this camp. Students will prepare and perform acting scenes and musical selections from The Descendants to perform ON STAGE for family and friends to enjoy!
Times: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Camp Dates: July 29 – August 2, 2024
Camp Size Limit: 16 Students (Full Camp)
Food: Students should bring 2 snacks, a lunch, and a water bottle each day.
Shoe Requirement: Black Tap Shoes & Black Jazz Shoes
Note: Students must be at least 6 years old by the start of camp. Students under 6 years old are invited to join us in the camp for ages 4 years old through Kindergarten.

Showcase Performance:
Summer Showcase: Friday, August 2, 1:15pm
Showcase Location: Will be held at Colorado Springs Christian School in Colorado Springs.
Showcase Tickets: Tickets are not needed to attend the Showcase so families can invite guests to attend the performance without cost!
Costumes: Students will be required to provide their own costumes for the show. Most costumes can be created from items around your home or from Goodwill.

Payment in Full: $365 (Due at registration)
Summer Camp Refund Policy:
If a student is withdrawn from Summer Camp BEFORE May 1st, the tuition will be refunded minus the $100 non-refundable deposit.
If a student is withdrawn from Summer Camp after May 1st, no refund will be given. However, if ACT is able to fill your spot with another student, then ACT will refund the tuition less the $100 deposit.
Tuition Discounts:
Military Discount*
Students who have a military or veteran parent qualify for a 10% discount.
Multi-Class Discount*
We offer a 10% discount for each additional camp a student takes over the summer.
Sibling Discount*
We offer a 10% discount for each additional sibling who participates in a camp over the summer.
*Students may use only one discount per class and all discounts will be applied to the equal or lesser value class.
Shayla Mellen
Musical Theatre, Dance Instructor & Choreographer
Class Instructor
Shayla Mellen is currently a Dance Performance major at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs working toward her Bachelor’s degree. She transferred from Casper College after receiving her Associates of Arts in Dance Performance on a full-tuition scholarship. She has been dancing since the age of 2 and dance and theatre are her absolute passion. She has been in many musicals and plays, such as Mary Poppins, The Wedding Singer, Six Characters in Search of an Author, an adaptation of Charlotte’s Web through dance, and What You Mean to Me. She currently teaches at the YMCA teaching Ballet, Tap, and Musical Theatre, and has also taught Jazz and Hip Hop. She was also recently the Assistant Choreographer for Vista Ridge High School’s production of Footloose. She is very excited to be joining the team at ACT and can’t wait to start classes this summer!
