Master Class - Level 1

Classes: August 19, 2024 – April 29, 2025 (This is a school year commitment.)

Class Size Limit: 10 Students

Student Ages: Grades 7-12

This series will be taught by Peter DeAnello, who brings over 35 years in the professional stage and screen business to ACT. This master class guides actors to make the most productive choices in the art and business of acting for stage and screen.

The ART:

Students will work on exercises and skills for individual growth and to support stronger, more dynamic character choices – all to enhance their stage and screen work and make the most of audition opportunities.

The BUSINESS:

Smart tips for:

  • Proper audition etiquette
  • The difference between stage and screen auditions
  • Professional presentation and business practices

This class is for the serious actor who wants to develop their acting skills and be prepared to pursue college acceptance and/or professional work.

During coaching portions of the class, students will take turns performing up front.  Students will need to be at a maturity level where they can be quiet and respectful while other actors are performing.

There will be work required outside of class and consistent attendance is required.

This is NOT a first-come, first served registration. Instead, actors will need to email two one-minute filmed monologues to ACT.  Spots will be filled with a rolling acceptance process.  This means that we will review applications as they arrive and determine if the applicant is qualified, then fill the spots accordingly.  Once the class is full, the class registration will be closed.  Those who audition after the class is closed will be added to a waitlist. Once accepted, you will be given a link to register for the class.

This class is full for the season.  Please check back about future opportunities.

Master Class Description - Level 1 into Level 2

LEVEL 1 – THE INTERNAL TO THE EXTERNAL

Students undergo an extensive study in acting, script development and smart business etiquette.

Even if a student doesn’t take their writing further than just the class, they receive knowledge and appreciation for script creation and development in theatre, tv, and film.  Writers, more often than not, now direct and produce their own work in all areas of the Industry.  Actors who develop a keen understanding of and respect for how closely these talents work together (in all aspects of the acting industry), from auditioning to developing a role, to create lasting foundations for sustainable success.

In this comprehensive course, Master Class #1 Students learn –

     * The 8 points to script breakdown and character development
     * The 6 Points to writing or recognizing dynamic monologues
     * How to write and present their own self-authored monologues and scenes
     * How to correctly pursue agent representation
     * Correct audition technique for commercial as well as film and tv auditions
     * Proper business etiquette, in all areas of the Acting Industry, to develop cordial, lasting working relationships with Casting Directors, Directors, Producers and their fellow actors.

LEVEL 2 – ONGOING MASTER CLASS – WORKING YOUR GOALS TO SUCCESS

Partway through the semester, students will advance into Level 2.  They will then work toward building their professional careers with the creation and implementation of the following.

Action Goal Sheets – Each student will create and work their own plans, with goals in mind, such as:
  • Actively pursuing agent auditions
  • Pursuing independent projects in theatre and/or film/tv
  • Developing relationships/contacts in professional industry areas such as Regional Theatres, production companies and film/tv studio arenas.

We will continue audition practice and acting training each week, presenting commercial, theatre, film, and tv auditions.

  • Through their Master Class #1 knowledge of the 8 points to script breakdown and character development and the 6 points to writing or recognizing dynamic monologues, they will be working  through their individual project event sheets to develop and self-author their own literary projects to showcase their talent (monologues, scenes, short plays).

The series will end with two events.
  • Talent agents will be invited to audition students with the opportunity to be signed by them. This will be an optional event.
  • Students will produce and perform their own evening of self-authored works in the studio for family to enjoy.
