Costume Reminders
COSTUME REMINDERS
- When putting together your costume, please make sure it is modest with tummies and undergarments (bra straps, underwear) not showing.
- Costumes should have straps or sleeves on both shoulders (no off-the-shoulder tops). Wide straps on the shoulders are fine, but spaghetti straps are not appropriate.
- If you wear a dress, we ask that it be below the knee. Also, wearing leggings underneath helps keep it modest while performing on the elevated stage.
- If your student is wearing a leotard, shorts or a skirt must be worn over the leotard. Just tights and a leotard are not appropriate for our setting, but a leotard with a dance skirt over it is fine!
- If your student is wearing a one-piece jumper, they will need to have shorts and a shirt underneath it. We will need to access the tummy by lowering the top part of the jumper, so they will need clothing underneath.
- DO NOT USE FEATHERS, FEATHER BOAS, OR GLITTER. We’ve agreed to not use glitter on the stage that we’re renting, so no glitter can be used on costumes, makeup, or hair!
- Please choose shoes that fit the character but will stay firmly attached to the foot so students can move and dance easily in them. (Students who are in a Musical Theatre, Broadway Combo or Dance Class will be using their tap and/or jazz shoes.)
- We also ask that you avoid shoes that light up since they can be distracting during the performance.
- Lastly, we now REQUIRE that students wear their hair pulled back off of their faces. Longer hair will rub against the microphone when it moves to the front of the body which makes an unpleasant noise through the speaker system. Longer hair doesn’t have to be in a bun or pony tail but it needs to be in at least a “half-up” so that it can’t hit the lapel mic.
