Academy Players: Audition Main Page
DISNEY'S THE LION KING KIDS
The Academy Players (AP) is an audition-based performance opportunity within the Academy of Children’s Theatre (ACT). In tandem with the skills learned through ACT semester classes, Academy Players students will receive additional training and a performance opportunity through a KIDS production with two performances held in December. Our fall production will focus on younger students (grades 2nd-8th), giving them a chance to land lead roles that are often reserved for older students. Our spring show will focus on the older students from 4th-12th grades.
In preparation, students will attend rehearsal intensives in early August before the semester begins, attend weekly rehearsals on Thursdays, and participate in additional tech rehearsals in December.
Mandatory Vocal Intensives (Special Rehearsals at the Beginning)
- Thursday, August 6: 4:30 – 8:00 PM
- Thursday, August 13: 4:30 – 8:30 PM
Weekly Rehearsals: Thursdays 4:30-8:00 (Starting August 20)
- Students are not always called to every rehearsal. (A schedule will be distributed online to the cast.)
- Starting mid-semester, ALL students cast will be called from 4:30 to 8:00 PM to run the show.
Tech Rehearsals at Theatre
- December 4: 4:00-8:30 PM
- December 5: 6:00-8:30 PM
Performances at the Theatre
- Saturday, December 12, 6:00 PM
- Sunday, December 13, 3:00 PM
We are very excited about this performance adventure for our students! However, this doesn’t replace the value of regular semester classes. To continue their development, students cast in Academy Players will also be required to take an ACT Semester class concurrent with their show and complete it in its entirety. Tuition for the regular-semester class qualifies for the 10% Multi-Class Discount. (Multi-class discount may not be combined with any other discounts.)

Auditions & Schedule
Auditions: July 21-22 (By Appointment)
Callbacks: July 25, 10:00-3:00 PM
Audition Grade Requirement: 2nd – 8th grade
If you are unable to attend either of the initial audition dates (July 21-22), students are invited to send an audition tape with any monologue and song of their choice to director@actcolorado.net.
Audition Process: DISNEY’S THE LION KING KIDS
1. Schedule Audition Time
2. Complete the Audition Form and PRINT IT OUT.
This form needs to be filled out and signed by the PARENT and the student.
3. Your Audition
Bring your printed audition form and a recent 8″ x 10″ photo of you, and your printed audition form to your audition.
- Your photo doesn’t need to be professionally done. You can take a photo on your phone and have it printed at Walmart.
- Your photo MUST be current. With so many students auditioning, the director needs to recognize your face when reviewing them, so it needs to look like you do now.
Prepare a 1-minute monologue of your choice, as well as a cut of a song no more than 1 minute long. See the “Audition Materials” page for more information.
4. Callbacks: July 25, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
All students who audition will receive an email by July 24 letting them know whether they are called back for a second audition or not.
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Dance Callbacks
- All students called back will be expected to attend the dance callbacks.
12:15 PM – 2:30 PM: Acting & Vocal Callbacks
- We will call students back in groups for acting and/or vocal callbacks, depending on the roles for which they are being considered.
- Those who are called back will receive a daily schedule, as well as additional music and acting scenes to prepare.
5. Casting Results
Casting results will be emailed by August 3. Everyone will get an email letting them know if they were cast or not.
